If you had fun playing GW1 then call it time well spent and be thankful. Sooner or later it's going to be time to move on ...to the next great adventure.
Well said! It's not like our characters just die out or fade away, their accomplishments will be remembered ^^

wow 66 pages of f-this crap its going to be a generic WoW...............2 years a way people and thats if they stay on the ball and no problems with the new engine arise. and for those that are complaining that 2 years is to long to wait for a game.....how long has StarCraft 2 been allegedly in the works? Some one pointed out that Duke Nukem Forever has been in the work for 10 years and they are right....I have seen games piss me off in beta only to surprise me when the full version is released......remember A LOT can happen in 2 years. So basically what I'm saying is don't jump to conclusions when all your are seeing is ideas that are being thrown around the table by the developers. Remember how cool we all thought HALO 2 was going to be...only for it to turn into a noob fest with everyone using auto aim in Multi-Player. Things can go both ways.....just settle down let them do their job and hopefully when the game is released and the dust settles everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

Exactly. It takes too long to buy/sell stuff from other players, time I'd rather spend playing the game!

Haven't read the article, heard there was mention of the Asuran race making swords and weapons? Could be just flavor, could hint at a crafting system. Speculation, of course.

For the record, I don't think crafting would be a bad idea (prepares for "it will be just like WoW" rants).

I'm curious to see the outcome when GW 2 is released. With all the new changes and moving the game into seemingly MMORPG-type elements. It a step up from GW1 where you only meet players inside towns and outpost and the quests and missions have no link or impact on the game world. With the game being 2 years away, would this game possibly be using Direct X 10?

To me, the only downside is the level cap (and the 2 years wait). I have 8 max level characters right now, all from a different class and with different armours. I won't be able to do that in GW2, I'll have to stick with one, maybe two character unless I want to grind.
But isn't that the case? People play the game for their own interests. People cheat in games, you do know that right? Regardless of how you look at it, many of us does find ways to cheat and have. Run to Droks to pickup max armor, ferries to Docks to get max armor, etc. etc. All these are cheats regardless of how you look at it. Walking around with a level 2 character with max armor beating on level 1 flowers. Yay! I can see that now. Way to go on not cheating... LOL. In all due respects, let's make GW2 that unless you reach xx level, you are not qualified to wear this armor. That should make the game play in a more evenly playing field. Weapons and armors should be tied to a level of a character instead of just because they obtain it. Let's make people use some brain cells to find ways to beat a creature instead of easily overpowering them because they have the best weapons and armors.

You mean a "cheat code" like buying a preorder or CE and typing in /bonusitems? I remember getting a nice max custom scythe and spear for my lvl 1 nub derv and para starting NF right off the bat. Not to mention the daggers and spiritbinder in factions. I'm not asking to start with max everything immediately. As someone posted earlier, perhaps these items could be transferred over through a 'rite of passage' quest when you reach a certain level (such as ascension in the desert when you've most likely already obtained some max armor and weapons). Please understand that we want the mementos for our hard work, not the gold... I would like to see continuity of their ascenstral descent!

Anyway, you want to carry cour characters over, even though the new game will most likely have a different/altered system? WHY?
Because you're attched to them, well, I guess I could understand that. I've played GW for one and a half years now and I really like my girls. But what's stopping me from creating their "heirs" in GW2?
Because you can't carry your "achievments" over? Oh please, that's just pathetic. Okay, you like what you have now, but do you really have to whine and whine because something that isn't worth anything anyway will be gone in the other "world" that GW2 is? It'll still be there in GW as long as the servers are there and even afterwards you still know what you've "accomplished".

Or are you whining because playing the game seems pointless to you now? (Some people definitely seem to think so, re: all the "I was excited about GWEN, but now it's all useless and I already deleted GW" posts) I tell you something: The only point this game has ever had (unless you're part of one of the top guilds who earn a "bit" of money) is having fun.
Are you having fun playing now? Then keep playing, enjoy the game, have a great time!
What? You're not having fun, but you're playing anyway to get titles/armours/whatever? Pathetic.

You say GW isn't worth playing because it'll end? Are you saying a book isn't worth reading because it'll end? A pen&paper RPG isn't worth playing because it'll end? Live isn't worth living because it'll end?

To the "but anet promised more chapters for GW than we'll get now!" people:
Yes, you're probably right and you have a point. It's not you I'm complaining about. I think it's debatable wether or not we'll profit more from a totally new game or more and more expansions to an old one (that might or might not destroy the balance etc.), but that's beside the point that I'm trying to make in this specific post.

To the "it's more pathetic to whine about whiners than to whine":
I don't want to sound like I'm whining and I appologize if I came across as whining. But consider this: I just can't understand the people I call "whiners" here, but I'd like to. Any explanation they've given so far has only made me want to scream in frustration because they seem so ignorant. It's said the world is full of stupid people, but I just don't want to believe there's so much stupidity here on this board. (Yes, I know, I should just quit it and believe it... stupid idealism.) I want one good answer, even if I have to be somewhat provocative to - maybe, maybe - get it.
EXACTLY my thoughts! LISTEN TO THIS PERSON!!!

I still have yet to see one completely logical reason as to why character transfer should exist. I didn't get it in the old thread, and I haven't seen anything on here, either.

/worship.

Gaile, Hi.

One question, can we reserve GUILD NAMES for GW2? Coz if not, GW2 will suck.

Wow.. the whole game will suck because of guild names... hmm

I can't believe nobody is talking about the amount to persistence they will add in GW2! We will still have instances, but have a true, living world where we also have the option to meet & talk with players out in the open! that is so, f'ing cool! Building parties in hard areas if we need help, having a vibrant breathing world with real players. And if the kill stealers & campers come out to play, we instance! it sounds so good!

I'm so glad ANET decided to take the good things about most MMORPGs and add them to GW's unique design. It's good to be unique, but it's even better to admit when an idea is good(no matter how old it is) and integrate it into what you've made.

I'm siked

Not like anyone would steal my crappy names but I'm just afraid someone will steal someone's name.

Oh and please, will there be a way to transfer festival hats? :sadpanda:

As for name reservation, I thought the article or Gaile said that you can already save up names from original GW1 characters?

PLEASE, I beg of you please please PLEASE for the love of God and all that's holy ...re-think the option of importing our chars from GW 1 into GW 2!!!!!! With all the time, effort, sweat, and blood I've put in that game that is the biggest turn off that was mentioned about GW 2! I have around 15 characters..I like the variety and I have spent a LOT of time on all of them! I love Guild Wars 1 -- I'd hate to lose all of that in a year or two. The rest sounds pretty interesting and fun but I really don't want to lose my players -- I've grown attached to them. I know I'm not the only one -- simply scanning over this post others are saying the same thing over and over. All I ask is for you to at least reconsider - think about it a bit more (-:

Thumbs down Very Sad.

I know that other players I'm sure are happy about the things Anet has decided to do. But I however am not. I have been playing GW since the Prophecies campaign. And it seems like they are changing what they intended. The lvl 20 cap was originally so that gameplay was about your build rather than your Lvl. And as for chapters coming out to soon. I and my guildmates have beat every chapter numerous times before the next has been out. I have nine characters all of which has beaten at least 2 of the chapters. Now your saying that the characters I've played for so long will not be allowed in the new game. I really think that Anet should rethink this idea. Want to raise the lvl's, fine if you really want to. But to cost people there characters. I for one am not liking the sound of this. I guess GW has decided to be like all the other MMORPG's.

Sorry, tyche7, I just don't think it's feasable.

You're assuming Guild Wars 2 will have the same attributes, professions, and skills as Guild Wars.

I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the case. There will be differences. Ergo, old characters just won't work in the new game.

That said, IF the Monument things works the way many think it will, we won't have to bring old characters in. We will inherit Titles, Mini-pets, equipment (? Not sure how this will work), Companions, etc.

I'm sure we'll learn more exactly what we can transfer and how closer to GW:EN release.

I cant see how they can even call this Guild Wars2. Other than some superficial elements...its NOTHING like the GW I have loved so much.

No character transfer?- Thanks for the huge slap in the face to allof us whom have been with GW since its FIRST beta. Some of use have brought our BETA created characters through all three chapters. We should have the option of carrying them over since you are throwing in superfical elements of the Charr in there.

Increased Level Caps? - no matter how you look at it...anytime a game has over a level 30 cap..it ends up being a grindage game.

Hundreds in the same area?- One fo the huge things I liked about GW was that I didnt have to fight instance campers in order to kill a mission related boss. I quit EQ2 and WoW because of the instance campers.

Gwen? - She shouldnt even be in "GW2" she shoulda been released in one of the three GW Chapters preferabley Sorrows Furnace. She has absolutely nothing to do with anything in GW2 from what I have read.

I am honestly sick to my stomach at what I just read bout GW2 and cannot believe Anet betrayed us like this. There is nothing groundbreaking or new with GW2..it just caters to the grinders and instance campers.

I will NOT be buying GW2 unless there are some really HUGE changes.

Thanks for ruining a wonderful game series Anet..GW2 is gonna be nothing but a patchwork clone of SOE and Blizzard work.

Wow people really go all out and nuts on game. Not saying I myself didn't spend an ample part of my life on this game, but to those saying WTFBBQHAX I Wasted My Life, you bought the game what do you expect. Not all games live forever and deliver exactly what the customers want.

To those veterans who love Guild Wars and now know about the upcoming Guild Wars 2, some are estactic some say WoW. In the end of all this bickering and moaning, I am sure the percent who bashed Guild Wars 2 will in the end buy the game. We are people, and all this flaming is really not needed, veteran or new player in the end I bet more than 3/4 will buy Guild Wars 2. The level cap, the new maps, whatever, the day of release you will still cling onto your money and buy the game.

All that is needed in this thread is insightful and comments on the new details we received on the long wait for a new chapter. I have no clue how some people say 6 months is not enough time to finish a chapter, of course than 100 replies below me will post, work, school, kids, blah blah blah. Stop moaning and do that, than come back to GW. GW is meant to not be grinded, buy the chapter, link it, and go work and come back. As for the release of Guild Wars 2, we are unsure if our mind set of GW1 will be the exact same as GW 2.

In the end, give Arena.net a break, we are getting a new game.
